Food, Crafts, and Smiles

Today was such a great day! I woke up this morning and my best friend Kalindi invited me over for a French toast breakfast completely homemade by her! She’s such a sweetie. It was my first time having French toast (shocking, I know) and she wanted my first time to be delicious–and it was!

Just look at how beautiful these are:

 Apple compote

Soaking the bread in the savory custard

Sizzle sizzle!
Then she tossed it in the oven for a few minutes and…..

Wa-la! Here I am holding the masterpiece!

Mmm mmm good.

After breakfast, we drove to a fabulous restaurant called Thai Spice and ordered bubble tea and bubble slushies to go! We got the bubble tea as a surprise for our momma’s and the slushies we enjoyed for ourselves. I originally wanted mango, but unfortunately the ran out, so I ended up with strawberry (which was still delicious) and Kalindi ordered piΓ±a colada. πŸ™‚

Here are some pictures:
(If you have never tried bubble tea, I HIGHLY recommend it. Bubble tea is one of my favorite drinks!)

Drinking and driving! Don’t try this at home, kids πŸ˜‰

Afterwards, we drove to Pat Catan’s and bought some fake flowers and mason jars and painted them using acrylic paint in her basement! Our dorm/suite next year has a large window in our room, so we are going to put the fake flowers in the mason jars and line them up on the windowsill as a cute, happy, and fun light-catching decoration! They are super cheap, super fun, and super easy to make! Super dee duper! πŸ™‚

Check them out!

We painted the inside a solid color and painted designs on the outside!

Here is Kalindi’s! Totally her style!

And here are mine….note the party hat on the turtle. Hahahaha πŸ™‚

We ended the day by going to our favorite cafe The Root! It was open-mic night, so we listened to some musicians and sipped on chai and mochas and nibbled on biscotti. The Root Cafe is the epitome of serenity. It is my home. I feel so happy and warm there! It is a total accepting and judge-free atmosphere and everyone is so loving and friendly! One time I got my palm read by a complete stranger! There is never a time that I go there and don’t end up having a conversation with someone I don’t know because everyone is so wonderful and open! Plus the food is all organic, vegan, or vegetarian! Kalindi and I are both vegetarians who love delicious healthy food, so of course this place rocks our socks!

Every last Friday of the month there is a poetry reading that anyone can participate in; it is one of my favorite things on this planet! I still remember doing my first poetry reading ever there….one of the best experiences of my life. Ahhh….if you are into this kind of loveliness and live near the Lakewood area, you should totally go there!

Have a wonderful rest of the week! πŸ™‚
