Mini Vacation

I spend this past weekend with my boyfriend and his mom exploring Cape Vincent, Alexandria Bay, and Niagara Falls, NY, in addition to a boat ride along the St. Lawrence Seaway (even crossing the Canadian border!). I had a really great time and loved spending a few days away from Ohio. I took around 140+ photos and because it would be bizarre to post all of them, I just chose a few of my favorites to capture the key points of the trip.

We were right next to the St. Lawrence River, so there were boats everywhere.

We went specifically to experience French Fest, which is the biggest event this super small town has. Here are some shots from the parade:

Afterwards, we drove to Alexandria Bay and took a boat tour of the Thousand Islands, which is a group of 1,840 islands that straddles the Canada-U.S. border. It was breathtaking and only made my want to buy an island house stronger!

We got the chance to tour Boldt Castle, which is a castle built on Heart Island. This grand structure was to be a display of George Boldt’s love for his wife Louise, but she unfortunately died before he completed the castle. This six story, 120 room castle is complete with tunnels, a powerhouse, Italian gardens, a drawbridge, alster tower (children’s playhouse), and a dove cote. It was fantastic!

We also enjoyed a delicious dinner at a restaurant while watching the sunset. A girl, a boy, and his dog were paddle boating along the waters. In the second shot, you’ll see that the boy fell off and the dog stayed on! Smart dog. 🙂
On the drive home, we stopped at Niagara Falls, New York. It was so beautiful!
We shot up an O-H-I-O with a little help from a scenic viewfinder! 🙂

It was super crazy hot too! I’m just glad I could get away. Everyone needs a small break from the routine of life sometimes!
