st. john festival of the arts

The St. John Medical Center Festival of the Arts is a yearly fine art and craft show in the Cleveland area. This weekend, more than 200 of America’s finest artists and craftspersons will be showcased on the beautiful park-like grounds of the St. John Medical Center campus.

If I got paid for how much I hunt for festivals around my area, I could pay to start my own yearly festival. This art festival is one that I look forward to every year. Not only is it located just a few minutes from my house, but it features raw and talented artists from all around the Cleveland area, which makes it even more special. The amount of talent that the people of my city have is astonishing. My jaw was dragging against the sidewalk in awe as I pointed every which way saying, “Look!! Look!!!!”

From pottery to woodwork, painting to photography, glass to metalwork, leather to jewelry, and printmaking to graphic design, I was in art heaven. Art is truly something I know I cannot possibly live without. Even the thought of not having an artistic viewpoint in life is too hard to imagine. Even simply looking at art brings me joy. Can you imagine the happiness creating art brings me? I’ll give you a hint. A great deal.

I just love festivals! I love seeing the brilliant and unique minds and perspectives of the people around me. No two artists are the same and that is amazing to me. If I had two random people draw me a picture of an apple, they would be different.
One artist at the festival was showcasing her jewelry and artwork made from sea glass collected on the beach. I collect sea glass all the time just for fun, and the fact that someone had the creative thought to turn these little pieces of weathered bottles into something more is absolutely brilliant.
The festival is open to the public, free of charge. Attendees are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items for local hunger centers. In 2013, over 2,500 pounds of food was collected to help those in need. How incredible!

If you live in the Cleveland area, I highly suggest stopping by! You will not regret it!

Festival Hours:
Friday, July 11: 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Saturday, July 12: 10:00 am – 7:00 pm
Sunday, July 13: 10:00 am – 5:00 pm

(I apologize for the lack of pictures. Artists asked politely for no photography.)
