Fresh, Healthy, Honest: Zest Juice Co.

I love fruits and veggies, and another fun way to eat them is to drink them as a juice! I don’t mean the kind that comes in a frozen concentrated can or the kind that has enough sugar to make my stomach churn. I’m referring to the type of juice that comes directly from fruit, the kind of juice that must be consumed in 72 hours or it will go bad.

Columbus is currently experiencing a surge in juice bars and I was pretty excited to experience the newly opened Zest this morning with my friend Meghan.

Offering fresh and healthy cold-pressed juice, Zest Juice Co. open its doors at 980 W. Fifth Ave. near Grandview in late fall. Zest’s juices range from veggie-based, like The Elementary with celery, cucumber, pear, apple, kale, lemon and ginger, to fruity, like The Vitamin CBus with grapefruit, orange and lemon juice.

In addition to juice, the menu features tonics, smoothies, and cashew milk that is too creamy and delicious to be true.

The owners, Natalie Rusch and Jordan Helman, are committed to quality. They use local produce as often as they can and they installed a powerful juicer that doesn’t generate heat, so none of the nutrients or enzymes in their juice are destroyed in the pressing process, producing the healthiest product possible.

The interior is small, but really rustic and beautiful with lots of wood and natural light. They have free Wi-Fi and a sprinkling of tables. The Wi-Fi exists so we can post pictures of the delicious juice to Instagram, duh.

I bought the Coffee Cashew Milk (filtered water, cashews, coffee, coconut oil, vanilla, Himalayan sea salt, dates, and maple syrup) for my lunch break at work.

For breakfast, I tried their latest smoothie bowl—Pom-Berry, which is comprised of banana, strawberry, raspberry, pomegranate powder, maca powder, and coconut milk. You have the option of three toppings, and 0.50 for each additional topping.

The bowl was delicious, and my favorite part was the almond butter. I was surprised by how filling it is! I was pleasantly full just halfway through.

There isn’t a day between Sunday and Monday, but there are smoothie bowls, and that makes life a little bit smooooother. 😉
