DIY Scrabble Drink Coasters

I like to think that I have a real knack for gift-giving. The number one rule of meaningful gift-giving is observation. Master the art of paying attention to what your friends and loved ones say and what their interests are. People are constantly dropping hints about what their likes and dislikes are, often when you least expect it!

For the word nerd in your life who loves to drink, I present: Scrabble coasters.

This super easy DIY makes for a super cute and customized gift for any holiday: birthdays, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, weddings, anniversaries, Christmas, graduations, etc! All you need are four-letter words and a few crafting supplies.

YOU’LL NEED:

  • 1 large package of Scrabble Tiles
  • E-6000 glue
  • 1 thin cork board or pre-cut cork coasters
  • An X-acto knife
  • Matte Modge Podge

Double check that one package of tiles includes every letter you are planning on using! I ordered two because I made eight coasters.

First chose four-letter words. I decided to follow a drink theme: Coffee, tea, liquor, beer, and wine.

After you’ve chosen all your tiles, use the E-6000 to glue each letter by row to the cork. I tried to get a little glue in between each letter so they would adhere together neatly. Align the the first word to top of cork square for precision.

Continue to glue each letter on each coaster and try to keep letters in a straight line.

Once each coaster is done, stack them under a heavy book to ensure they dry flat. As you can see, the pre-cut cork coasters I bought were larger than my planned square size, but it helped for aligning the letters. It was simple to trim the cork after drying.

Allow coasters to dry for one hour. Using an X-acto knife, carefully trim excess cork from square. Do not use scissors, as they will shred the cork.

Place tiles on paper bag or newspaper. Coat the top of your coasters with a layer of Modge Podge to seal them.

I love the way the coasters turned out and I am so excited to give them away! I want to make hundreds!
